If you or anyone you know has had a premature baby, you know just how tough a time it can be - for the little babies, for the parents and siblings, and even for extended family and friends. Long hospital stays, numerous medical procedures, information overload, financial and emotional stress - and not to mention the juggling act between hospital, home, other children and work commitments.
Thanks to ongoing research and dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff, more and more babies born prematurely are able to survive and thrive in their early days. For parents, the comfort and reassurance offered by various support groups can be instrumental in their journey, which at times can be lonely, confronting and traumatic.
That's why at Octoprem, we are dedicated to helping support groups and charities that are aimed at improving the lives of premature and sick babies and their families.
We are so proud to be supporting Miracle Babies Foundation, one of Australia’s leading organisations supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them. Around 48,000 babies are born each year in Australia that require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN) – that equates to around 132 babies each day.
We donate $2 from every Octoprem sale to Miracle Babies to support them in their efforts to provide better, healthier outcomes for newborns challenged by prematurity or sickness.

We are also thrilled to support Life's Little Treasure's Foundation, one of Australia's foremost charities dedicated to providing support, friendship and information, specifically tailored for families of premature or sick babies.
The Foundation's services are available in hospitals (neonatal and special care units) and in the community when families come home, and are aimed at giving families the support and assistance they need during the often difficult journey after the birth of a premature or sick baby.
In the lead up to World Prematurity Day 2019, we have donated 140 Softies for inclusion in the Foundation's World Prematurity Day Morning Tea bags going out to hospitals in Melbourne. We look forward to continuing our support for the great work of the Foundation in 2019.

Octoprem also works with other charities and groups from time to time by donating funds, food and toys depending on the needs of the charity or group.
During our pre-sale events in late 2017 and mid 2018, we teamed up with Tiny Sparks WA by donating $2 from every sale made during the pre-sale periods.
Tiny Sparks WA is Western Australia's premier charity for high-risk pregnancies and babies born sick or premature. It is a volunteer run, not-for-profit organisation who's mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of Western Australian families enduring high-risk pregnancy, infants requiring neonatal unit care and the associated childhood impacts; including the communities supporting them.

Every few months we will also be teaming up with other charities, causes or groups for our Comforting Contributions toy donation drives.
For our first ever Comforting Contributions drive, we teamed up with NICU Food From The Heart – founded by Michelle Barry and Rebecca Ilie, 2 local mums who identified a need in their local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.
In January 2017 they created a ‘Brekkie Bar’ within the NICU. The community group is donation-led and the ladies rely on the kindness of local families and businesses to donate food so that they can fill the NICU breakfast table with healthy food options as well as treats. A delivery is made to the RNSH NICU fortnightly.
Other initiatives the ladies have been involved with are facilitating catering for Thursday Dad's Nights, fundraising to purchase a $5000 Kanmed Bed, Christmas gift bags, and various gift bags for families throughout the year, including Mother's Day bags, Mindfullness for Mums bags, Father's Day bags and Christmas bags.
In December 2017, they put together 25 gift bags for babies that were in RNSH NICU around Christmas and thanks to your kindness, we were able to donate 25 Softies for their gift bags.
Later this year we will run another donation drive for their 2019 Christmas gift bags - stay tuned!
